How to Replace the DRLs on BMW X1 F48 LCI and X2 F39 LCI
Good news: swapping out your DRLs is easier than you might think — each headlight only takes about 10 minutes!
Here’s what you’ll do:
Step 1: Pop the hood
Find the original DRL LED modules sitting right on top of your headlights.
Step 2: Remove the fender trim
- Using a trim removal tool, carefully pop out the four plastic rivets holding the inner fender trim.
- Gently remove the base of each rivet with a pick tool.
- Take off the trim to access the DRL modules.
Step 3: Unscrew the DRL modules
- With a T20 Torx screwdriver, remove the three screws securing each module (both inner and outer).
Step 4: Disconnect the wiring
- Carefully pull the modules free and unplug their electrical connectors.
Swapping in Your New Yellow DRL LEDs
Now for the fun part — getting those crisp Yellow Angel Eyes installed!
Step 5: Remove the factory LED boards
- Take off the thermal heatsink from the back of the module.
- Gently peel off the original LED circuit boards.
Step 6: Prep the heatsink
- Apply a thin, even layer of thermal paste (available on our website) onto the heatsink.
Step 7: Install the new Yellow LED boards
- Place the MACOTE Yellow LED boards onto the heatsink.
- Press lightly to ensure a solid bond.
Step 8: Let it set
- Give the thermal paste a few minutes to dry and lock everything in place.
Step 9: Reassemble
- Reattach the heatsink.
- Reconnect the LED modules and secure them with the original screws.
- Snap the fender trim back into place and reinstall the rivets.
Boom! You’ve just installed your brand-new Yellow DRL Angel Eyes!
