These vehicles display a harmonious balance of captivating design, powerful performance and cutting-edge technologies. Let's discover the evolution of the BMW 2 Series through time, highlighting its distinctive features, notable innovations, and the driving pleasure it promises to every automotive enthusiast.
First-generation 2 Series
BMW 2 Series F22
The first-generation BMW 2 Series, launched in 2014 as the successor to the 1 Series Coupé, embodies the German brand's characteristic elegance and sportiness. This compact car is the result of meticulous design, highlighting distinctive aesthetic elements that accentuate its dynamic character.
Right from its introduction to the market, the 2 Series has had a striking silhouette, marked by prominent wheel arches, an athletic stern and a descending roofline, contributing to its sporty allure. Over the years, aesthetic evolutions have amplified its intensity, notably with the redesign of the front and rear lights in 2017, which now incorporate LED technology as standard, giving the car an even greater presence on the road.
Under the hood, the 2 Series offers a range of agile engines, from an entry-level petrol engine to impressive M models, including the CS version delivering 450 hp (331 kW). The chassis, true to BMW DNA, ensures precise control thanks to responsive steering and rear-wheel-drive architecture, offering a dynamic driving experience in all situations.
Inside, the driver is greeted by a refined interior, enhanced by a host of assistance systems. Active Cruise Control reacts intelligently to road conditions, ensuring safer driving. Entertainment systems, capable of accessing all music libraries via streaming, promise pure entertainment throughout the journey.
The production period for this first generation runs from 2013 to 2021, and is based on the platform of the 1 Series compact sedan (F20/F21). In 2017, BMW unveils restyled versions, adding distinct finishes such as Shadow, Sport Shadow and M Performance Shadow, characterized by black elements on the grille, headlights, taillights and exhaust pipes.
In 2019, the 2 Series expands its offering with the introduction of a Gran Coupé version, positioned between the 1 Series Sedan and the 3 Series Gran Coupé. This extension of the range confirms BMW's ability to innovate and meet the varied needs of car enthusiasts, offering a successful combination of performance, elegance and technology. The first-generation BMW 2 Series remains an icon, combining the brand's sporting heritage with contemporary innovations.
Second-generation 2 Series
BMW 2 Series G42
The second-generation BMW 2 Series Coupé, unveiled in 2021, embodies the bold evolution of compact sports cars, combining powerful performance with captivating aesthetics. With power transmitted to the rear wheels, this car offers an emotional driving experience and exceptional agility. Remarkably efficient and powerful engines deliver lively acceleration in all driving situations.
The 2 Series Coupe features optional variable Directdrive Sport steering, offering precise handling and responsive steering, while reducing the effort required at the wheel. The 31 mm wider track than its predecessor gives the car a muscular appearance, visually enhanced by the new single-frame double grilles, which adjust to suit cooling requirements. Individual bi-LED headlamps recall coupe legends such as the BMW 2002, while triangular air intakes under the lights reinforce the vehicle's sporty character, a recurring motif in the design, including in the interior door panels.
Cutting-edge technology also comes on board with the BMW Digital Key, allowing you to use a smartphone to open, close and start the car. The My BMW app also offers the possibility of checking and locking the car remotely, ensuring constant peace of mind.
This second generation, in production since 2021, features an engine range from 2.0 to 3.0 liters, offering power outputs from 135 to 275 kW (184 to 374 hp), with 4 and 6-cylinder options. The car's dimensions, with a length of between 4,537 and 4,548 mm, a width of 1,838 mm, and a height of between 1,390 and 1,404 mm, bear witness to its balanced layout.
The sporty M2 version, announced in October 2022 and on sale from April 2023, promises an even more advanced experience. Available with manual or automatic transmission, the M2 is based on the automaker's CLAR technical platform, used in the 3 Series and 4 Series. Three distinct powertrains are offered, highlighting the diversity of choice for driving enthusiasts, whether it's the sparkling petrol of the 220i, the powerful six-cylinder of the M240i xDrive, or the high-performance diesel of the 220d.
Thus, the second-generation BMW 2 Series Coupé stands as an outstanding representation of automotive engineering, offering an exquisite combination of performance, captivating design and innovative technologies, thus consolidating the sporting heritage of the Bavarian brand.
